Understand your private jet charter cost
A useful private jet quote prices the complete mission. An advertised hourly rate cannot tell you what it will cost to move an aircraft into position, keep a crew available or complete an international arrival. Use this guide to compare proposals on the same basis and identify the questions that belong in a written quotation.
What determines the total charter price?
Start with the requested itinerary: airports, travel dates, departure windows, passenger count and return schedule. The aircraft’s location before your flight can add positioning sectors. The operator may also apply minimum billable flying or daily usage requirements. A lower hourly rate can therefore produce a higher total than an aircraft already positioned close to your departure.
Next, compare the cabin that your group actually needs. A larger aircraft may be justified by luggage, cabin height or nonstop capability, even when a smaller model has enough seats. Conversely, a short trip with a small group may not benefit from paying for long-range capability. Ask for the exact model and cabin layout so the comparison is meaningful.
One-way, round-trip and multi-city pricing
A one-way charter does not automatically cost half of a return itinerary. The carrier still needs to position the aircraft and crew. For a same-day return, keeping the aircraft nearby may be practical; for a long stay, separate one-way options may be more suitable. Request both where they could realistically serve your schedule.
Multi-city trips need the full sequence of destinations and dates. Changes to one sector can affect crew arrangements and the next departure. Compare the entire journey, including airport waiting, overnight arrangements and any empty positioning sectors, instead of selecting each leg from an isolated headline rate.
Charges to identify before booking
Ask whether the quotation includes airport and FBO handling, landing or parking charges, crew expenses, catering, de-icing where applicable, international handling and applicable taxes. Ground transport may be arranged separately. Optional extras should be itemized so you can distinguish them from required operating charges.
Read the cancellation and schedule-change terms before committing. A weather disruption, a delayed passenger or an airport change can have different commercial consequences. Confirm when the price becomes binding, what aircraft substitution is permitted and who will be the operating carrier.
Use a worksheet, then request a real quote
The worksheet below is an arithmetic planning tool. Its editable example inputs are not Jet.live rates, live availability or a bookable offer. Enter assumptions from a current operator proposal to understand how flight hours, positioning and fixed charges change the total. It excludes any item you do not enter.
For an actionable quote, send your departure and destination, travel dates, number of passengers, luggage and any flexibility. Include both airports if they are fixed, or give the final addresses if you want an airport comparison. We can then discuss an aircraft proposal suited to the mission.
Charter budget worksheet
Illustrative inputs for arithmetic only. These are not Jet.live rates, quotes or live offers. Enter all charges from a current proposal; unentered charges are excluded.
Formula: (flight hours + positioning hours) × assumed hourly rate + entered fixed charges + entered taxes / other charges. Not a carrier quote.
Frequently asked questions
Is private jet rental priced per person?
A whole-aircraft charter generally quotes the aircraft mission rather than an airline-style seat fare. Confirm whether a proposal is for the entire aircraft or a seat product; Jet.live enquiries concern charter planning.
Can an empty leg reduce the price?
A repositioning flight can sometimes provide a lower-priced opportunity when its route and timing fit your plans. Availability is not assured, and the terms may change if the underlying flight changes.
Why do two quotes for the same route differ?
Aircraft location, model, cabin layout, dates, billable minimums and included charges can differ. Compare the complete itinerary and contract terms, not just the hourly figure.
