Plan a private flight with your pet

Flying privately with a pet starts with matching the actual animal and travel plan to an accepting operator and aircraft. “Pet friendly” should describe a confirmed arrangement, not a blanket promise. Tell us about your dog or cat at the beginning so cabin suitability, cleaning terms and destination requirements can be reviewed together.

Include your pet in the first request

Provide the number of animals, species, size and approximate weight. Explain whether a carrier, restraint or additional floor space is needed. Those details can affect aircraft selection even when there are plenty of passenger seats. Large carriers should be measured, including their height and door clearance.

Ask the operator to confirm its pet policy for the specific aircraft. Cabin access, restraint arrangements and cleaning fees can vary. Obtain approval before committing rather than assuming a previous pet-friendly charter establishes the same conditions on another aircraft.

Plan the cabin and luggage together

A family traveling with a pet may also bring carriers, food, bedding and extra bags. Include those items in the baggage list. The aircraft needs suitable space for passengers and the pet without obstructing access or exceeding the approved loading plan.

Share any relevant handling needs with the charter coordinator. Questions about an animal’s health or fitness to travel belong with your veterinarian. Do not rely on a cabin description as a substitute for veterinary advice or the operator’s acceptance.

International journeys need early preparation

Cross-border pet travel can involve destination-specific documentation and arrival arrangements. Requirements can differ by species, previous travel and departure country. Check the official destination authority and your veterinarian well before the flight, and have the operator confirm the handling plan.

For US arrivals, consult current CDC and USDA guidance as applicable to the animal and journey. A private charter does not remove border requirements. A last-minute itinerary may be impractical if the necessary preparations have not already been completed.

Ask the right questions before booking

Confirm the exact aircraft, permitted pet arrangement, any cleaning charge and the consequences of a substitution. If an approved aircraft is replaced, the pet’s acceptance must be reconfirmed on the substitute. Keep ground transport in the plan as well; the vehicle needs to accommodate the animal and baggage.

For a multi-stop journey, review every destination and return sector. An easy outbound flight does not settle re-entry requirements. A clear plan makes the trip easier for both the passenger group and the operating crew.

Frequently asked questions

Can my dog travel in the cabin?

Cabin travel may be possible when the specific operator approves the animal, restraint arrangement and aircraft. Confirm this before booking.

Do I need to mention a small cat?

Yes. Every animal should be disclosed, including its carrier dimensions and any handling requirements.

Are pet documents needed on a private international flight?

Private travel does not waive applicable border or animal-entry requirements. Use the official destination rules and obtain professional veterinary guidance.
